Margaret Prior (1773–1842) was a trailblazing American missionary who dedicated her life to helping the most vulnerable residents of nineteenth-century New York City. She served as a primary agent for the New York Female Moral Reform Society, a group that empowered women to address social issues like poverty and exploitation. Prior was famous for her "walks of usefulness," during which she entered notorious slums and prisons to deliver food, clothing, and spiritual support.
