S. J. Perelman, was an American humorist, author, and screenwriter. He is best known for his humorous short pieces in The New Yorker 34 of which appear in this volume.
In his day, Miltown was a metaphor for the medicated suppression of suburban anxiety and mental distress, named after the first blockbuster tranquilizer developed out of Miltown, New Jersey.
