Fredrika Bremer records her extensive travels and observations throughout the United States and Cuba during the early 1850s. Composed as a series of letters, she captures her personal impressions of American society, including its domestic life, the state of women, slavery, and religious and utopian communities.

Fredrika Bremer (1801–1865) was a highly celebrated Swedish novelist and writer. She is often called the "Swedish Jane Austen" for popularizing the realist novel in her country. She was also a prominent activist for women's rights in Sweden.

POOR condition. Binding is completely cracked and broken at the middle of the page block. Covers very worn with light cracking to the hinges. Light pencil markings inside the covers. Spotting and foxing to the interior pages. Complete, scarce antiquarian book in poor condition.
