Privately Printed, Charleston, 1956. Signed hardcover of Alice Ravenel Huger Smith: An Appreciation on the Occasion of her Eightieth Birthday from Her Friends. Limited presentation of 800 copies. 59 pages.

Alice R. Huger Smith has signed the half-title page above her printed name.

"On her eightieth birthday, July 14, 1956, the many friends of Alice R. Huger Smith wanted in some small way to show their appreciation of the many things she has meant to them. This little book is the result. It is a brief record of the contributions and events of her life; the record of her sketches, prints and paintings--as complete as we could make it."

Includes two in-laid illustrations of her works, and a comprehensive catalogue of her known works.

Also includes two inserted pieces of paper ephemera by the book's previous owner Charles Loftin.

Mr. Charles Loftin (1936-2020) was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. He was a teacher and artist. His estate's distinguished library championed his study of the Civil War, Southern artists and architecture, and the local history of Davidson County. Many of his books include personal correspondence with the authors, deepening his perspective of their material.

Good condition. Cover boards browned and bumped to the top corners. Light spotting to the page block top edge. Tanning to the presentation page and two small staple holes to the same page. Interior pages crisp. Solid book with shelf wear.
