Walker, Evans & Cogswell Company, 1934. First edition cloth bound hardcover of The Aftermath of Glory by James Henry Rice, Jr..

Previously owned by Constance Pelzer Ackerson. The Pelzer family is an old and historically prominent clan associated with Charleston for their role in the Southern textile manufacturing boom. The family's patriarch Francis J. Pelzer established the Pelzer Manufacturing Company in 1880 in the South Carolina Upcountry, which grew into a major mill village operation.

Silhouette illustrations by Carew Rice, the author's son.

A collection of essays and reflections that examine the history, culture, and natural environment of South Carolina and its Lowcountry. Written by a renowned South Carolina naturalist and ornithologist, this book serves as a contemplative look at the legacy of the past—-the "glory" of antebellum life—-and its lingering influence on the modern South.

Good condition. No dust jacket. Crown of spine pulled. Light soiling to the covers. Previous owner markings to the first blank page. A few tiny knicks to the right edge of the page block. Binding tight and square. Interior pages clean and crisp. Solid book with shelf wear.
