Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1953. First edition hardcover with dust jacket of Education and the Significance of Life by Jiddu Krishnamurti.

Krishnamurti argues that the purpose of schooling is to foster total human freedom and intelligence. He critiques existing educational systems for promoting conformity, fear and competition.

Ironically sold by a Theosophical Society book store. Krishnamurti was discovered as a child by Theosophical leaders and was groomed for 20 years to become the movement's spiritual messiah. However, in 1929, he famously renounced all organized religious authority, and began his lifelong teaching career as a completely independent philosopher.

Good condition. 1-inch closed tear to the dust jacket front cover bottom edge. Previous owner's info to the front fly leaf. Light soiling to the dust jacket rear flap. Interior pages clean and crisp. Solid book with shelf wear.
