"I have a special partiality of the Ling Nan (south of the Five Ridges, an area covering Guangdong and Guangxi) school among so many schools of traditional Chinese painting with a history of more than a thousand years. One reason for this is that I was born and brought up in that area and feel very much attached to it. On the other hand, I know quite a number of painters of the Ling Nan school and have access to their fine works, resulting in a fairly complete and rich collection of their masterpieces." -Leung Ji Hang, Owner of the Mind-Cultivation Studio
The Ling-nan School of Chinese painting emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in southern China as a fusion of traditional Chinese techniques with Western and Japanese influences. Founded by Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng, and Chen Shuren, it sought to modernize Chinese art while preserving its essence. Characterized by bold colors, dynamic brushwork, and the use of Western techniques like shading and perspective, Ling-nan artists introduced a fresh vibrancy to traditional themes such as landscapes, flowers, and birds. Their work often reflected contemporary social and political themes, making the movement a bridge between classical Chinese painting and modern artistic expression.
Very Good. There appears to be an isolated spot of ink transfer to the title page, but it is difficult to tell if it is an intentional artistic effect or a printing error. It does not show through the page. Otherwise a nice book with light shelf wear.
