Longmans, Green and Co., 1931. First U.K. edition cloth bound hardcover with dust jacket of The Long Christmas Dinner and Other Plays by Thornton Wilder.

Thornton Wilder's The Long Christmas Dinner is a one-act play that explores the passage of time and the cycle of life through a series of Christmas dinners spanning 90 years in the Bayard family. The play is structured as a continuous scene where characters enter, age, and exit—often symbolizing birth and death—without traditional scene breaks.

The play is an experimental meditation on how life moves forward even as people and circumstances change.

"Mr. Wilder's passion for compression has never found a more striking medium than in the first of these plays, in which--though it fills no more than twenty-eight pages--life is shown as 'la vie est breve, un peu d'espoir, un peu de reve--et puis, bonsoir' for three successive generations. But though, perhaps, one thinks first of compression in connection with Mr. Wilder, one inevitably thinks a lot of beauty. That, too, is here."

Acceptable. The top right corner of the front cover is slightly bowed out. Issue does not present clearly with dust jacket on book, but can be noticed once jacket is removed. Dust jacket with edgewear, protected in a mylar sleeve. Interior pages crisp. A good vintage book with a small flaw.
