Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1925. First edition cloth bound hardcover of The Phantom Public by the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, reporter, and political commentator Walter Lippmann, known for introducing the idea of the Cold War and coining the word "stereotype."

This book comes from the library of J. Roland Pennock, a prominent professor of Political Science at Swarthmore College where he taught from 1932 to 1976. Pennock's extensive body of work focused on understanding the politics of liberal democracy, an area in which The Phantom Public made a significant critique and undoubtably influenced his thinking. This book contains Professor Pennock's handwritten marginal notes, and other markings in the text, as well as folded page corners.

Good condition. Soiling to the covers and darkening to the spine. Light lean to the binding. Previous owner's name to the front fly leaf, and pen markings throughout that do not obscure text. Index pages uncut in the back of the book. No dust jacket.
