Richard R. Smith, 1961. First edition cloth bound hardcover with dust jacket of The Way Up: An Autobiography by Albert Keiser.

A rare original printing of the entertaining and fascinating memoirs of an accomplished immigrant to America. Dr. Keiser was renowned in his time for his public speaking ability, his stature as a Lutheran minister, and doggedness.

This book's previous owner was J. White Iddings, who pastored the Christiana Evangelical Lutheran Church in Salisbury, NC during the 1940s.

"These memoirs of Dr. Albert Keiser, published posthumously, recall a life of unusual vigor and dedication. Landing in America at the age of fourteen, he overcame extraordinary obstacles to acquire a formal education and to achieve a respected place in his profession. We see him as a young Lutheran student and missionary, and finally as a teacher, minister and writer. It was perhaps typical of his determination that he became a professor of public speaking and English--the adopted language he did not begin to learn until he was seventeen years old."

Very Good. Dust jacket has pushing wear to the top of the spine, and a few small dings to the corner. Previous owner's name inside the cover. Book is quite nice and crisp. A lovely copy.
