B. W. Huebsch, 1923. First edition cloth bound hardcover of Young India: 1919-1922 by Mahatma Gandhi.

A collection of articles and essays Mahatma Gandhi wrote for the weekly journal Young India during a crucial period of the Indian independence movement. It serves as a primary source for understanding his evolving philosophy, particularly his advocacy for Swaraj (self-rule) and his commitment to Satyagraha (non-violent resistance) as a political tool. The writings detail Gandhi's opposition to British policies, his vision for a free India based on economic self-sufficiency, and his promotion of movements like the Non-Cooperation Movement in response to events like the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The book encapsulates his core ideals and their practical application in mobilizing the masses against colonial rule in the early 1920s.

Poor condition. Covers stained with slight warping from liquid damage to the back cover. Spine faded and soiled. Binding very loose, but intact. Slight waviness to page block. Small spot stains to the bottom of the page block. A couple small pencil markings inside the front cover and to the half-title page. Some creases to the page corners. Interior pages are clean and readable. Flawed but complete, structurally sound copy of a scarce and important first edition book.
