Durrie & Peck, 1842. Antiquarian leather bound hardcover of A History of the United States, on a New Plan; Adapted to the Capacity of Youth. To Which Is Added the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution of the United States by Jesse Olney.

Interesting early American history textbook with some fun attempts at colorizing the black and white illustrations by a young, bored pupil.

One cool historical note:

Page 287 incorrectly prints the Titles of Nobility Amendment as the Thirteenth Amendment. This was a popular confusion during the first half of the 19th century that made it's way into this textbook. The actual 13th amendment, abolishing slavery, was passed in 1865. The Titles of Nobility amendment passed Congress on May 1, 1810 but failed to be ratified by the states, short by just 2 states. However, it was mistakenly included in many early 19th century printings of the Constitution and therefore thought by many at the time to be ratified.

The Amendment is technically pending ratification today and, in theory, could still be passed.

Fair condition. Covers very worn and faded, with material flaking off the spine. Crown and foot of spine chipped away. Binding intact and a little loose. Previous owner/student markings inside the covers. Small pencil markings to the pages throughout that do not obscure text. Illustrations have been partially hand-colored by a bored student. Liquid stains to the early pages of the book. The last few blank pages, including the rear fly leaf, appear to have been cleanly cut out of the book. Okay antiquarian book, complete, in fair condition.
