University of South Carolina Press, 1971. Trade paperback of Sketches of Negro Life and History in South Carolina by Asa Gordon.
What was it like to be a highly intelligent, educated Negro in South Carolina in the 1920’s?
This book is reissued to provide an answer to that question. The author, the late Asa H. Gordon, spent his entire professional career teaching history in predominantly black colleges and universities and was one of the pioneer teachers of Black Studies. In his first position, at what was then State A. & M. College, Orangeburg, South Carolina, he wrote this book, which was published in 1929 with one chapter written by Bernard E. Mays.
Good condition. Solid book with shelf wear.
