North Carolina Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, 1994-1999. First edition large cloth bound hardcover set of The Samuel Rothrock Diaries, 1834-1893, Volumes 1 and 2.
The Rev. Rothrock served as president of the North Carolina Synod for 10 years, non-consecutively, during the period of 1840-1880. He additionally served as secretary and treasurer, and was twice president of the Southern General Synod. Throughout his lengthy pastorate, Rev. Rothrock kept an almost daily record of his activities.
His journals which provide such a rich historical document are even more illuminated with detailed indices to Baptisms, Confirmations, Marriages, Funerals and Burials, Persons, Churches, Places and Events. Volume II deepens his legacy with annotations and commentary by Harriet Arey Davidson.
These volumes are quite large, measuring about 11 1/2-inches by 8 3/4-inches.
Very Good. Volume 2 has an isolated ding to the top of the page block. Nice books with solid binding, crisp pages, and light shelf wear.
