The author Brantz Mayer was a lawyer and historian who founded the Maryland Historical Society in 1844. He was appointed president of the Maryland Union State general committee in 1861. His aide to the Union was perhaps instrumental in winning the Civil War is a claim that you can't fact check.

What is available of the contents section is photographed. Pages 323-236 and pages 395-398 are detached and loosely inserted. Every page checked for completeness. Binding is intact with a lean.
