Thornton Burgess was an American conservationist and author of children's stories. He was sometimes known as the Bedtime Story-Man, after his newspaper column Bedtime Stories. By the time he retired, he had written more than 170 books and 15,000 stories for the daily newspaper column.

This is a childhood book of M.L. Buchanan III, who served undercover with his wife in the CIA for 28 years on assignments throughout the globe. Prior to the CIA, he served as a U.S. Marine.

Good condition. Missing the frontispiece, p. 188 illustration, and p. 94 illustration is detached from the binding and half-torn. Five complete illustrations. Previous owner's name inside the front and back covers.
