Antiphon, Italy, 1489. Introit antiphon double-sided illuminated manuscript vellum leaf written and supplied with music and illuminated with "pen and brush" at Cremona, Italy, by Ludovicum de Gacis, citizen of Cremona, for the use of the Franciscan convent at Belluno, Italy. It was commissioned by the Reverend Franciscus de Bolzano, and completed on April 10, 1489.
A beautiful, large example of Latin gothic script chant measuring 16-1/2 inches tall by 12-inches wide, mounted in a frame measuring 29-1/2 inches tall by 20-1/4 inches wide. Below the manuscript is a printed translation of both pages and a reproduction of the full colophon to the piece, giving its exact provenance.
Condition:
Please note that the glass panel of this framed piece is only on the front side (i.e. the first page) of the double-sided manuscript. The back side (i.e. the second page) has no protective covering. Additionally, the wooden frame is cracked along the length of the bottom plank. The crack does not compromise the structure of the frame as the frame feels intact.
The vellum manuscript itself is well preserved, as shown, with some waviness to the outer edges.
