Apple Computer, 1984. Original box and floppy disk of the Through The Looking Glass game written by Steve Capps for the Apple Lisa.
Through the Looking Glass is the only game ever written and published directly by Apple, and the only game disk officially sold by Apple Computer. Originally titled "Alice," the game's name was changed before its release when Mac developers realized Alice was also the name of a database management program.
Steve Capps wrote this game in his spare time while working on the Lisa team for printer support. Steve Jobs liked the game so much that he moved Capps to the Mac team after the Lisa was released. In his new role, Capps worked on the Finder application and the Guided Tour disk that shipped with early machines.
Stewart Brand, Editor in Chief of Whole Earth Software Catalog wrote in his contemporary review: "I think the Mac is going to be a great game machine, and ALICE is the first proof"Â (1984 page 31).
This disk also includes a few other Steve Capps bonus projects including the font Cartoon, which would go on to become ubiquitous in the games industry, appearing everywhere from Star Control II to Mortal Kombat.
As this software is very old and untested, it is being sold as-is. The box and floppy disk are in excellent condition.
Please note, this software will require a signature on delivery. It will ship securely, double boxed, and with insurance and tracking.
