Alfred A. Knopf, 2009. Second Printing hardcover with dust jacket of Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen by Christopher McDougall.
"Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt?"
One of your boy Old Al's personal favorites and most impactful books, causing him to switch over to toe shoes permanently to the continuing derision of his family and friends, who don't know how foolish they are. Old Al doesn't mind. He just quietly observes the generations of sad beings tottering around grocery store aisles on their 5-inch-thick foam soles, and doesn't respond with sympathy to their constant complaints of body pain. He knows it's useless to tell people who have never used their body that they are in control of their own flesh and blood, and that their pain arises from something besides unalterable DNA, because they refuse to accept otherwise. These are the people who do not read books like Born to Run.
Good condition. Slight lean to the binding, much like the lean to a Baby Boomer's spine who has never before done a sit-up. Solid book with shelf wear.
